OUR SCHOOL / Board of Governors
 

The MEFIS Board of Governors was established in 2007 as the authority to guide and govern MEF International School Istanbul. It has been chaired by Ms Ebru Arikan since its establishment.   MEFIS Board of Governors, serving Term 2 in 2009-2010, is composed of the following members:

1.200 SCHOOL MISSION


MEFIS offers a stimulating education program that strives to meet the individual learning needs of its students. The school provides equality in opportunities, so that each child is guided to discover and develop intellectual, creative, social and physical potentials. In doing so, the school endeavors to empower its students with a life-long passion for learning. Students are encouraged to become confident, balanced and socially responsible individuals who will contribute positively to local and global communities.

1.300 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL


MEF International School:

- offers equality of opportunity to develop academically, socially, creatively and physically in a safe and nurturing environment;
- provides an appropriate and challenging course of study in a progressive educational institution which encourages students to think critically, logically and independently, whilst accommodating their individual learning needs;
- encourages its students to become compassionate, self-disciplined, responsible individuals who will contribute positively to the world and adapt to change;
- guides students to develop intercultural awareness and a truly international perspective as global citizens.

2.100 POWERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS


Board is charged with implementing the requirements of the MEFIS Statutes. Board is also charged with campus policy setting and overall management and administration of Board in accordance with Turkish law and the Board Statutes. Board does not interfere with the day to day running of the schools. In performing their tasks, Board Members shall have as their objective the well-understood interests of the MEF International School and the excellence of education for its students.

- Specifically, Board shall have power and responsibility;
- To implement and monitor the decisions and resolutions of the AGM;
- To submit reports and financial statements to Executive Board and the school community;
- To make recommendations to Executive Board and the AGM;
- To administer funds;
- To approve the budget of the schools;
- To provide feedback to Executive Board to appoint, evaluate and terminate the employment of Director and MEFIS Coordinator;
- To approve posts and contractual terms for new staff position;
- To consult with Director and Head of Schoolon appointment of administrative staff;

2.110 ORGANIZATION OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS


Board shall comprise 8 members. Chair selected/appointed by Executive Board Director and Head of School Principals (2) Parent Representative elected (1) Teacher Representatives elected (2)

Board shall be considered legally constituted when it comprises at least 5 Members.

Board elections shall take place in the fall of each school year. In the Annual Fall Meeting of Board, new board will be constituted.

The term of office of Board Members shall run for 2 school years.

Elected Members of Board may be re-elected.

2.500 REGULAR BOARD MEETINGS


All regularly scheduled Board Meetings are closed to members of the school community.

Board shall hold as many regular Board meetings as may be necessary, but not less than at least once every semester. (June and September meetings are mandatory.)

Regular meetings of Board shall be called by Board Chair, or in his/her absence by his/her designated person; secretary will remind her to choose the designated person.

Written notice of regular meetings of Board, indicating the subjects to be discussed at such meetings together with all relevant documents, shall be distributed by the Chair to members of Board at least seven (7) days in advance of the meeting, except in unusual circumstances.

In the absence of the Chair at a regular board meeting, designated person shall preside.

The minutes of the regular meetings of Board of Governors shall record, at a minimum, the decisions taken by Board, whether by consensus or by vote. The Secretary of Board shall be responsible for the minutes & the Chair will be responsible for the safekeeping of the minutes and for their orderly transfer to his/her successor.
